Discord

If your team lives in Discord, you can reach Ian On there without opening the app. Everything works through one command, /ian, and three subcommands.

The three commands

• /ian ask <question> — ask the operating brain a question. Only you see the answer. If the answer is based on decisions, up to 3 of them appear under Decisions behind this, each showing who approved or rejected it and when, with a link. The answer ends with a View all link to Knowledge in the app. If an answer is very long, only the end of the answer is cut off; the decisions and link stay.
• /ian link — connect your Discord identity to your Ian On account (once; see below).
• /ian report — get this week's weekly report on demand. Ian On replies with a link.

Discord doesn't create or run work. If a request you send with /ian ask looks like it needs work rather than an answer, you get a link to your conversation with Ian in the app instead of an answer. Ask again there to start the work. You can also open the same screen with Talk to Ian on Home in the app. See Home & Ian conversations.

Linking your account (once)

ask and report need to know who you are, so link your account first.

1. In Discord, run /ian link. The bot sends you a connection link that only you can see. It's valid for 10 minutes.
2. Open that link while signed in to Ian On. The Settings page shows a confirmation: "Link this Ian On account to your Discord account?"
3. Click Connect. Done — /ian ask and /ian report now work for you.

If you're told the link is invalid or has expired, run /ian link again to get a new link. A Discord account can be linked to only one Ian On account. If your Discord account is already linked to another Ian On account, Disconnect it from that account first, then link again.

To undo it later, click Disconnect in Settings → Discord connection.

If your organization turns off the Messenger Bots feature, people who haven't linked a Discord account don't see the Discord connection card in Settings. If you've already linked one, the card stays so you can Disconnect at any time.

The /ian command's notices appear in the language you chose in Settings → Language (Korean or English). Before you link your account, or if you've never chosen a language, they appear in English when your Discord app is in English, and in Korean otherwise. Ian's answer itself comes in the language you asked in, whatever this setting.

If /ian doesn't work, your organization's Discord bot may not be set up yet, or the Messenger Bots feature may be off. Ask an owner or admin to check. The feature is turned on in Admin → Features, and the bot is set up in Admin → Messengers. See Delivery, Messengers, and Email assistant.
